| accouswk's Full Review: GEICO Direct |
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced what I have gone through. I received a reasonable quote over the phone and agreed to accept the policy on a new leased Acura 3.2TL. I DOUBLE verified the VIN with them and later received my policy in the mail. But I failed to notice that the VIN number on the insurance card was wrong - two digits were wrong in the middle of the 17-digit number. I never noticed this "error" so I never called to correct it. Some how, MIRACULOUSLY, GEICO realized there was a mistake (I still can't for the life of me figure that out - nor can anyone at GEICO give me a rational explanation for it either) and sent me a new policy with the corrected numbers and, you guessed it, an increased premium rate. Hummm. I immediately inquired about this B.S. and they told me that the increased rate was because of "more expensive" items on the car represented by my true VIN #. Ok, so I asked "Like what?" They told me special trim etc. I called ACURA with both VIN numbers and asked what was the difference. They said that the model car I had leased has NO different trim packages and the insurance company was wrong. I find it terribly peculiar that the sales agent somehow entered the wrong number - off by TWO digits - that somehow represented a car with a cheaper insurance rate - that I explicitly reviewed twice on the phone (I wish I had recorded it) and then was mysteriously corrected to a higher rated vehicle (the leasing company had never sent them any info on the car and I verified this). Listening to their explanation as to how this could happen was a total insult to my intelligence and I demanded that they give me the original rate. They said Ok, Ok, but only for the first 6 months. Please write if this scam was pulled on you. I think they should be investigated. To top it off, I had to move from CT to New Orleans and my rate (with every single variable remaining the same) went from $1300/yr to over $3300/yr. Give me a break.
