| judgmentalone's Full Review: Travelers - Home |
I recently purchased a house and decided to go with Travelers for my homeowners insurance since my auto was insured by them.
My house is a 3-year-old transitional. It has a modern layout, including a 2-story foyer and family room with a vaulted ceiling. I also have a 2-car garage that is partially under the second floor.
One month after I moved in, I received a notice that my premium would be increased by over $100 based on a property inspection by someone who does not work for Travelers. The increase was for what they considered a misrepresentation of square footage on my part. According to them, I had over 600 more square feet!
The square footage of my house was determined by this inspector by basically measuring corner to corner from the outside and multiplying by two. No consideration was given to the open areas or space taken by the garage. The report showed that he considered my house a "Cape Cod".
I contacted a Customer Service Rep who practically accused me of lying in order to lower my premium. I explained about the open features of my house (because the inspectors don't come inside). They wouldn't budge. I explained that if their determination of square footage was correct, that meant I would have bought this newer modern house for $71 a square foot! They still wouldn't budge.
I decided it was too easy for me to get another company's business based on my excellent credit, on time payment record and no claim history, so I cancelled both my homeowners and auto policies with Travelers, according to their requested methods - email or written letter. I did both.
Yesterday in the mail I got a notice that my auto premium would be increased by $13 based on a policy change.
?????
I guess they are now ignoring my cancellation request. I can only assume it is to not have to refund my premium.
What is up with this company?
