| mommabunny's Full Review: Travelers - Home |
Two years ago we moved into our home in Mobile, AL. This is our third home and once again, it was time to shop for homeowner's insurance. I got quotes from several of the big name carriers, and decided to check with Traveler's primarily because we had our auto insurance with them.
A big consideration for us was a flat deductible for all losses. It seems that the trend lately is to provide a separate 3% to 5% deductible for Hurricane losses. This could be a big bite if we lost our $175,000 home in a big storm. Being this close to the coast, this is a pretty substantial risk to us.
Travelers offered a flat $500 deductible: a winning point.
We chose to sign with them, and are reaping the 10% discount for having our auto insurance with them as well.
When I read through our new policy, I noticed a provision for loss of frozen food with no deductible. This turned out to be a real boon when we returned from a two week vacation to find that our the breaker had tripped to our huge upright freezer, leaving a mess of rotten meat and seafood. The $500 some odd check didn't get rid of the mess, but it did allow us to replace the food.
I try to keep up on policy pricing, and so far, Travelers has remained quite competitive, and their customer service has been excellent.
