Having been a member of USAA for over 35 years, I have seen changes in the company that are not for the best. They have gotten into so many areas, that I question their ability to handle the most important one, like our insurance. They were twice as high for our homeowners policy in the state in which we live, so we dropped that aspect of our insurance which we had for over 30 years. Sometimes, bigger is NOT better. I do not find their prices on flowers, jewelry, furniture, travel, to name a few, to be a bargain or even reasonable for that matter. They generate more junk mail than Publisher's Clearing House. I am saving it, and plan to return it all to them at the end of the year....what a waste of money! Months ago, my request to them was to be removed from all mailings except my bill..guess that cannot happen. There was a time when the company was really a "family"....well, just try and talk to one of the leaders, and please notice that they are all Generals....I'd love to vote for a retired Major. My point is, some months ago I needed to talk with Mr Heres the President and was told point blank by his office that "he did not talk to members"..When I requested that I leave my number, and perhaps he could call me at his convenience, again I was told NO. So I wrote him a letter, and TWO months later I received a generic response. So tell me, where is the personal aspect of the business? Finally, and most importantly, I had an accident shortly after moving here, they said it was my fault, and when I questioned them about their decision, I was sent the state laws that pertained to the issue. It turned out that these had expired, and after locating the current statutes, contacting USAA, sending them to the appropriate people, they would not back down on the decision. So, yes, I am mad, but I wonder what kind of company would not admit a mistake on their part when they made a decision based on laws that had been changed? If they had used the current laws, it would have been the other parties fault. No, I didn't cancel.....they still are cheaper on auto insurance.
