Pros: You feel like you must be getting a good deal.
Cons: Overpriced with poor claims settlement.
The Bottom Line: I've overspent by at least $1000 per year for the last 5 years. Their reputation is making them millions. I'm done contributing to their profit line.

| charliep77's Full Review: USAA Group - Auto |
Is USAA auto insurance the best? Think again. Ive had USAA for 24 years because I believed they were the best - had the best rates had the best customer satisfaction rate. I thought it was one of the unwritten benefits of being in the service. Maybe that was true in the past but it sure isnt true this week.
My car was recently backed into by another driver. I was stopped and he backed into the side of my car. I sent them a diagram and the copy of the police report and was told by my adjuster they do not consider police reports in their determination of fault. Even with pictures of the damage to both cars, a diagram and a copy of the police report, the best USAA would do is say the other driver was 㦨% at fault. (Perhaps I should have levitated my Volvo to avoid the accident but I guess I just wasnt thinking clearly). That means I pay for 40% of the damages even though I was stationary at the time. Why did USAA find me (sitting in my parked car) at fault for getting hit? Perhaps it is because they also insure the other driver and are trying to avoid paying at all. For a small accident I believe they hope we each pay our deductible and they are off the hook. Seems like it to me. They also failed to return calls, were rude on the phone, and failed to provide requested written justification for their settlement in a timely fashion (haven't seen it yet). So their customer satisfaction rate just took a big hit with me. Have you made a claim with them in the last two years? Satisfied?
I decided to check rates. Im glad I did. When I change to another company, I will be saving over $1300 per year. Still like USAA? Their rates were no better than 6 other companies I compared them to and much worse than 3 others. Theres lots of easy quotes available on line and it's going to be different in each state.
Im glad to have found a new insurer and will be happy to save the cash. Im not real thrilled with myself for waiting this long to really shop.
I used to teach classes in customer service. I collected "horror stories". This qualifies.
