| studyhard's Full Review: USAA Group - Auto |
With my mother being in the army, I was introduced to USAA at an early age. So when I got my first car, I got USAA insurance. Being that a 16 year old isn't the most "proficient" driver, I did have an accident early on in my driving career. USAA wasn't accusatory and handled the claim efficiently.
Fast forward to just graduating from college (I went without a car while I was away at college). Now that I wasn't on Mom's policy any more, I thought I wasn't eligible for USAA anymore. So I went with Geico, which was the best deal I could find on the open market. My mom told me that I was still eligible for USAA, so I called. I was, and I was astounded to hear that my rate would be almost 50% less than Geico. Everyone was very friendly, they didn't hold my previous accident against me, and I was saving money. Plus, I was getting those informative magazines every quarter.
That was three years ago. Since then, I have gotten married and just added a new car to the policy. The rates are still reasonable, though I have noticed they've gone up quite a bit, but I'm sure they do with every company. And those nice little dividend checks pay for a dinner out once a year.
The website is fairly user friendly. I had a difficult time registering as they require a lot of authentication information (at least when I registered 2 years ago). But now I zip through the website and was even impressed with their quoting system if you want to add a new car. I wasn't completely sure I wanted to buy a new car, and I could do "what if" scenarios.
Overall, a valuable service if you are eligible.
