Overall USAA seems very solid and professional, and it seems indisputable that they are the least expensive insurance around. However, like some others describe, I am not happy with the claims service. I was in a minor scrape-up which was, at worst, partly my fault (both cars were in motion doing unusual things, etc.) In New York, you have to negotiate fault by percentage with the other party's insurer. In my initial interview the adjustor came up with a shockingly unsympathetic interpretation of what happened (75% my fault). In such an ambiguous situation I really expected USAA to go to bat for me, but I guess that's not what they do.
