| Mom2TyZick's Full Review: USAA Group - Auto |
One of the biggest headaches you can ever have is dealing with an insurance company. Having said this, dealing with USAA is like going through labor with a nice epidural. It's pretty painless and the end result is satisfying. My experience with this company, who has insured me from the time I got my driver's license, has been excellent. There's only one small catch: You must be in the military, a dependent or ex-dependent of someone in the service. Lucky for me, my dad was in the Air Force. This is by far the best perk I've seen from his stint as a navigator.
Service
USAA's service is exemplary. They are helpful beyond belief. When I was in college my car broke down at night before the days of cell phones. Luckily, I was in walking distance of a pay phone, and called USAA. The representative was concerned for my safety first. She located a 24 hour towing company and impressed upon the man of my dire circumstances, so he was there in 20 minutes. After we got the car to the shop, I merely signed his ticket and we were on our merry way.
Another incident that impressed me was when I was hit from behind. Though the accident was not my fault, I called USAA to let them know about it, gave them my information, and I didn't worry about anything else. They fought my battle (which was no big deal, I have to tell you) for me.
It has been my experience that all claims are paid in a timely manner. You can even file claims online and look at your balance and past claims online. I've always used the phone number to talk to human beings, and the operators are always courteous and helpful and I've never had to remain on hold for an extended period of time.
Rates
You can obtain quotes on the website 24 hours a day. You can also sign up for Premium Pay, which automatically takes the premium out of your bank account on a monthly basis. This option saves you time, checks and late charges.
Each insurance company has its own set of rating factors, but they are probably pretty consistent across the board. Here are USAA's rating factors for determining the cost of your individual vehicle premium:
* Operator's age and driving experience
* Operator's driving record
* Type(s) of vehicles
* Vehicle's location
* Vehicle's usage (for us one is for work and one is recreational)
With these factors taken into consideration, we are able to insure our 1988 Toyota Celica GT Convertible and our 1996 Nissan Maxima GLE for $589.99 for 6 months. We get discounts for multiple cars being insured, having anti-theft protection (the alarm system) and passive restraints (airbags). Our deductibles are $50 for a non-collision repair (such as a cracked windshield) and $500 for a collision repair.
You simply cannot do better than this company. If you are searching for car insurance and are lucky enough to qualify, you do not need to look any further than USAA.
