Pros: Very good insurance company. I have my house and my cars through this company.
Cons: Someone in family must be associated with the military.
The Bottom Line: You need to insure yourself with this company if you can get the policy.

My father was in the military during college and he had USAA insurance for as long as I can remember. I was able to join and get an insurance policy because I was a dependent. I have insured my car through USAA and now that I am closing on a house in a few days I went with USAA for a homeowners policy. While I was living in an apartment I had a USAA renters policy. I even have a USAA credit card with a good interest rate.
The initial phone call to put the homeowners policy in effect took about 20 minutes. Since I am buying an older home they needed to ask a few more questions but overall I was happy with the policy. I insured my house for 183,000 in coverage for the dwelling. Personal property insured for 137,250 in case my property gets destroyed. Twelve months loss of use for 36,600. Personal liability for up to 300,000 and the home protector clause that covers 25% more coverage of the dwelling if needed. I also got the replacement cost coverage for $55 a year, this is a must. All this coverage with a $500 deductible for 599.15 a year. Not bad at all. I checked against other insurance companies and they could not compete.
I would recommend that anyone who has a relative associated with the military to buy into this company for your car, house, or renters insurance needs. It is worth it and no other company can compete with the premiums.
