| deedraa's Full Review: Digital Credit Union |
I switched my hubby's and mine checking/savings account to Digital Credit Union (DCU) about six months ago and it has been the best move we have made in regards to a bank. We were both long time members of Fleet/BankBoston for years. I finally got motivated to switch us to DCU when I heard about their no fee checking, no fee online banking, and no fee ATM's (if you use an ATM with the SUM logo on them, which there are plenty of).
Because we were long time members of Fleet/BankBoston, we didn't realized just how much money these banks were taking from us. We were just too comfortable with Fleet/BankBoston and didn't want to take the time and effort to switch everything over. (Direct Deposit, automatic debits etc). Then for a few month when money was tight, these bank charges started catching my eye. $1.50 - 2.00 per transaction for ATM Charges, $8.95 a month to use Quicken, $6.95 a month to have a checking account. Wow I couldn't believe it! We averaged $32.00 a month in Bank fees!!
That's when I got motivated. It took about a month or so to switch everything over but well worth it! We now have No bank fees and we have a checking and savings account. DCU has an online site that I can view as often as I want to get my balance, use the bill payer service, download into Quicken, make transfers between accounts...all online! I also got a credit card with DCU that I can pay by transferring money from my checking account to the credit card right online and is done in an instant.
DCU doesn't want you to pay ATM fees. This is proved by the fact that they will actually reimburse you up to $5.00 a month for ATM fees you may have gotten by visiting a non-SUM or non-DCU ATM. Now Come on...you have to admit this is a great bank!
One of the most popular items to get from a bank now a days is a Debit Card with either a Mastercard or Visa logo. These can be used just about everywhere Mastercard/Visa is taken and the money is taken directly from my checking account. Fleet/BankBoston would not give my husband and I one of these cards without filling out a credit form first. And even then because we had a couple of derogatory marks on them from a few years ago, they wouldn't give us a check cashing card. DCU gives you this card when you open an account with them. No credit check done.
Customer Service at DCU is always very good as well. Whenever I have had a question they have been very efficient, friendly and helpful. And the longest I have had to wait for a rep has been under two minutes.
This is a Great bank and I highly recommend everyone to check them out!
