| luvmysoldier's Full Review: Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union |
My husband is in the Army and is stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
So naturally, my son and I moved along with him in July of 2000. Shortly after
our arrival, I decided that I needed to open my own checking and savings
accounts. My husband, who already had accounts of his own open, took me to
Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union to get enrolled.
The atmosphere at FBFCU is a very friendly and professional one. There are
several big windows at the side of the building which give it a fresh and
airy feel. However, how a credit union looks is not as important as how it
functions, correct? Luckily for us, FBFCU functions well above average.
Upon our arrival at FBFCU, my husband and I went and stood in line at
the check-in desk. The receptionist was very upbeat and curteous. She smiled
as she greeted us and took our names, then gave me a form to fill out. I filled out
the form and handed it back to her. She told us that someone would be with us
in a few minutes.
We didn't have to wait very long at all - maybe five or ten minutes at the most.
A woman walked out and called my name. We followed her back to her desk where she
began processing my account request. It only took another ten minutes before
she told me I was approved and that my account was now open. She even went so far
as to make me up an ATM card right there! At the last bank I used, I had to wait
two weeks for the card to arrive in the mail. So this was a very nice and welcome
surprise.
A few months went by and it was Christmas time. My husband and I were a little
bit short on funds, so we decided to apply for a Christmas loan through FBFCU.
We weren't entirely sure that we would be approved, seeing as we both have little
credit history to our names. We went and filled out a loan application, and when our names
were called, we followed the woman to her desk and she explained how the loan worked.
An $800 loan, she said, would likely come with a 17% interest rate seeing as my husband
has such little credit history. That sounds a little steep, right? Now for the good part.
The woman typed my husband's information into her computer, and by some miracle, the
bank accepted the loan application at an interest rate of only 8%. The woman was pretty
surprised and told us that that was almost unheard of, for a first time loan applicant.
Needless to say, we left feeling very pleased.
Then, just a few weeks ago, I decided I needed a credit card because I wanted to sell on
eBay again and you need a credit card in order to do so. I had been applying for
countless different credit cards for months, only to be repeatedly turned down because of
small amount of credit history, and also the fact that I don't have a job that pays. My husband
suggested that we apply for a joint secured Visa card. So we did. Once again, everyone
at the FBFCU was very helpful and friendly. They walked us through the steps that we
took in applying for the credit card. We were approved! I was a little surprised, seeing as
how my old credit union back in Philadelphia (where I used to live) would not approve me even for a secured Visa card.
Another great feature of FBFCU is their website. It is interactive, meaning that
you can check your account balance and transaction history online. All you need to do
is enter your account number and your password, and your entire account is at your
fingertips. I like using this feature to check and see if the checks I have written
have been cashed.
All in all, I have had an excellent experience with Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union. I
would not hesitate to recommend FBFCU to anyone residing here at Fort Bragg who is on the hunt for a reliable credit union.
