| goaliemn's Full Review: US Federal Credit Union |
I joined USFCU about 2 months ago. I have to say I'm impressed.
I work for a federal agency that has a small branch in the building open 3 days a week. I like that. I can walk from my desk right to a teller. I was looking at purchasing a new car. I did some checking and decided to take the dealer rebate for paying cash and get a loan elsewhere. I talked to a co-worker who said they went through the CU. I walked over, joined for a $5 share account, filled out an application, and I was approved in less than 15 minutes. I was amazed. I had done some checking at other banks for a loan and it always took at least a day to get an answer. They gave me a great rate.
At the same time, I signed up for a checking account and they gave me a $1000 overdraft protection line, with no annual fee! My old bank, it was $25/yr.
I had been with my old bank for years. Now, I've moved everything over to these guys. I love the fact my money isn't going away to a big bank located across the country to pay for their huge skyscraper. It stays here in the local community. Plus, they have a deal with a network of credit unions so I have access to 1500 branches across the country!
Its a great place. Always friendly staff. They have 5 or 6 locations in Minneapolis, acouple in Atlanta and Memphis as well. They also have web banking that allows you to view both sides of your canceled checks on line! They also send out paper statements, something my old bank wanted to charge extra for.
There are only 2 things I find mildly annoying. I can't call a banker at 2am if I have a question on my statement or want to check on my account, but its not that big of an issue since I can leave a message on the website, and they respond quickly. And they do charge $4/mo for bill pay. Most other banks offer it for free, and I hope they will follow suit. At least its a reasonable amount. Its a small price to pay for great local service.
