I need cheaters for extended close reading and in dim light. Though I do have a pair of prescription glasses that are much more costly, I keep these a an excellent backup. In fact, if I ever lose the prescription glasses, I will stick with these. I really like them.
Foster Grant Logan Semi Rimless Reading Glasses 2.75 Strength with Spring Hinges
Foster Grant have been an excellent eye wear company for a long time. They offer many styles and types of glasses with a full line of "off the rack" glasses for the far-sighted who need glasses to read up close.
These particular glasses are the "logan" style that's considered semi-rimless with a narrow band of frame that doesn't completely enclose the lenses. It's a smart looking pair of glasses that fit well on my broad face with little adjustment. They can indeed be adjusted to many shape nfaces and noses.
The plastic frame is well made. It has a solid feel to them. They also have spring hinges. That I really like! The springs again offer a solid feel When they are opened I can feel the snap into position. When they are folded closed, it's the same thing. The spring moves it into the folded position, one arm upon the other resting on the front frame. They cannot open accidentally.
The lenses too seem very well made and are resistant to scratching that cheap reading glasses tend to do much too easily. Also the lenses are sold in varied strengths. This one is the 2.75 but I have seen them in 2.00 and 1.50 too. The 2.00 are the best for my liking.
I do find that I have to clean them fairly often and its a bit harder to get on the two ends that taper in. It's not a complaint, it's just that a little extra effort that must be applied.
pops Take
I took a chance spending my dollars on these Foster Grant glasses. I usually get very cheap back-up glasses at a dollar store. This time I splurged big time and could have purchased some ten to twenty of the usual cheapo glasses I once used. These are like real glasses and in fact are as good for me in this strength as my prescription glasses at one third the price in a very sturdy frame.
I really like these glasses and they will replace my prescription glasses whenever they are lost or lifetime finished. They really are very well made. I just don't get it when I see frames going for tens and hundreds of dollars when a good well made frame can be purchased for some twenty bucks with good lenses.
Foster Grant do make a superior product that is of excellent value. I'm gonna stick with them.
