Shortly after filling up the original Sony Memory Card we had, we looked for a cheaper, but reliable alternative and found it in the Nyko 8 MB Memory Card for Playstation 2. At about three-quarters of the price, it has proven to be a very reliable memory card for saving games.
The bright yellow color of this memory card makes it easy to find on a cluttered table. We have a small table that the PS2 and now the Wii sits on, along with the memory cards, games that have been left out, etc. In other words it can get pretty cluttered, but the yellow color sticks out and makes the memory card easy to find, unless it's under something.
This memory card also has a raised rubber oval on the bottom corner, making it easy to grab ahold of and pull out of the memory card slot. Is it necessary? Probably not, but it's a nice addition to make it easier to get a good hold on the memory card.
As far as storage, it's just like any 8 MB memory card. The amount of game saves you can store on the memory card depends on the types of games you play and how much storage they need. We've got 24 games saved on ours, plus the system configuration and there is still room on the card for more saves.
So far it's been very reliable, we've got saves all the way back to 2003 and the game saves load with no data loss. As with any memory card with the PS2, you can delete old saves easily to free up room on the card, we usually do this with games we've traded in at GameStop. As far a durability, it's plastic, but still pretty durable, it has ended up on the floor and been stepped on without damage, so I would call that pretty durable.
So, if you're looking for a cheaper, yet reliable alternative to the name brand Sony memory cards, take a look at this one on your next trip to GameStop or your favorite video game store.
