| jimd28's Full Review: Mad Catz DVD Remote for PlayStation2 (8281) |
I have searched through the internet looking for a good remote control for PS2. It might be better to wait until Sony release their remote, but no one knows when that would happen. There are just so many remote out there. I just hate to have extra remote by my chair, so I always prefer the universal remote. I just can not juggle three remote, one for TV/VCR, one for stereo system and another for PS2. My friends had recommended Pelican DVD Controller and told me to stay away from SAITEK model. I saw this one at BestBuy and Walmart. I immediately start checking on this remote on the internet. It is rated pretty low as "universal" remote. I was going to buy Pelican and went to the store. I saw this remote again, but looked a little different from the one I saw at another store. The price is about $5.00 cheaper than Pelican. I just did not like the design of Pelican remote, and I will buy Sony model when it is released, so I just decided to buy this remote from Mad Catz.
Every review I have read on the net stated that the set up for TV and VCR is a nightmare. Well, I guess Mad Caz did some home work, it was very easy only three steps for each. Works just fine. I don't like the design of the pad though. Instead of having symbols, Mad Caz had put word like circle, squire. It looks very stupid, but you will not care after you get used to it. Receiver is renewed as well. This was supposed to have just a receiver, but now it is pass-thru. You don't have to take a receiver off from PS2 unit.
I recommend this model for people who are looking for remote for PS2. You get all with better look and lower price. $15 for this is not bad at all.
