When Infrogames announced that it was bringing Expendable Stateside, I was eager to see if this Conra-type game would be a true homage to action gorefests of yore or just another disappointment in a long line of Contra knock-offs.
There are over 20 levels to play in.It has some fast gameplay and some fantastic explosions. The game plays almost exactly like its computer counterpart. It has clean high-resolution textures and evironments. The game is nice to look at bu the dark landscapes, blinding pyrotechnnics, and tiny characters sometimes difficult to look at. Don't even think about 2 player mode. It's almost impossible to play because the frame rate suffers and all the explosions going on make it impossible to know what's going on. When the graphics start to get in the way of the gameplay by leading you into a game over screen or continue you will want to smash the game.
The gameplay gets boring and repetitive after playing the first 10 levels. They all look alike with little variation. There are a lot of mission objectives nut they do little to enhance the experience. In the end it turns out to be a game that sadly disappoints. While all out Contra fans may want to rent Expendable, others will be disappointed.
