Mike341's Full Review: Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes for Dr...
Have you ever wanted to feel like you are in a anime cartoon? Gundam Side Stoy 0079 lets you hop into a Mobile Suit and learn first hand what it feels like to be a pilot from the animated Gundam TV series. Through the course of your mission you will take control of different suits, weapons, and lets you put different weapons and shields on different Suits as needed by whatever the next mission calls for!!!!
Each level requires stealth, percision, and tactics. This is where the learning curve comes in. I would say about 1 hour for people who are new to the way mobile suit combat works. If you have studied the way they fight in the cartoon, you will already be familiar with the proper way of using your "Vernier" to out-run and over-take your opponent. If you know this, then the game may take you 1/2 hour to get the hang of the control.
While this game puts you in the Gundam anime universe type enviroment, one thing is lacking. The suits do not seem to be very agile. The mobile suits feel sorta heavy and slow. If you watch the TV show, you will notice the agility the mobile suits should have. I just get any sense of agility in this game.
The Graphics are superb!!!! Gundam Side Story really shows off the polygon pumping power of the Sega Dreamcast. The HIGH level of DETAIL make you feel like you are in the anime cartoon, giving you the full effect, that this sort of game should give the player.
The opening cinema to every mission area, and some in mission cinemas, also look highly detailed and add to the feel of the Gundam enviroment.
These cinemas help move the gameplay along by revealing other objectives during missions, and adding to the story by showing you the feeling and emotions of your wingmates who often give you advice or sometimes they would just like to chat with you. The feelings of other people and the way they act certainly makes this game more than just another 'mech game, it's a game that puts you in the seat of an anime cartoon, and that pretty cool, wouldn't you say?
The sound in this game is also outstanding. Everything from Fireing weapons, to walking, to deflecting off your shield, or reving up your "verniers" you HIGH quality sound effects that add to the expierience. Also, since the Mission briefing and stuff like that are done by video and voice, it is good to know that not only are the voices in sync with the video, but the quality of the sound of the voices are CREASTAL CLEAR!!!!
If you have seen the show, then you may have noticed the original way the animator draws the explosions. And some of you out there are saying, "How is that going to look when the make the game?" Well here is the answer, IT LOOKS VERY VERY VERY GOOD!!!!!!!! I was wondering the same thing, and after playing this game, I understand what the animator was trying to create when he choose his form of drawing exlosions.
And you will agree that when you play this game, that the explosions really add to the atmosphere and they also give you that little nudge on the shoulder thats always seems to say, "hey bub, you are inside the anime cartoon, how cool is that!!!".
It is extremely cool!!!
It is true that you can beat this game quick. Maybe somewhere in the niehborhood of 4 weeks. Don't get me wrong, the game is not easy, the AI (artificial Intelligence) is impressive!!!! The seem to show the ability to know when to retreat, and when to come back and attack you when you think they left. You get too close, they draw thier Beam Sabers and show you the know how duel. They will hit you, then when you swing, it will be too late cause the know just when to use thier "Verniers" to avoid your attack, get behind you, and open up a case. If you wanna beat these guys, you will have to spend some time practicing how to use your "Verniers" and hope that it is enough to turn them to dust. hmmmm.....is it enough???
You'll just have to learn, *cough* cough* Or Die * cough* * cough *
You may wonder, if I beat this game, will I come back for more. Well the only answer I can give is, If you enjoy piloting a mobile suit from a cool anime show, if you like the idea of giant fighting robots with big guns, if you like BLOWING UP STUFF JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT, THE THE ANSWER IS YEAH!!!!!! YOU WILL KEEP COMMING BACK TO THIS GAME AND HAVE AN EXTREMLY GOOD TIME!!!!!!!!!!
This Game is just downright F-U-N .....FUN!!!!
