TerraSMZ's Full Review: Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes for Dr...
When I saw "Gundam" on a Dreamcast CD I was immediantly overcome with temptation to buy it. I am obsessed with anime. Gundam is an anime, therefore, I had to have that game! I kept waiting and waiting to buy it, thinking something better would come along; but it didnt. So eventually I went over to Best Buy and I bought the thing at $44.99, ( a price I thought was rediculous). I got home and put it in the Dreamcast. The graphics looked great so far and I saw familiar Mobile Suits walking across the screen, shield in hand and gun in the other. So far it looked great, a lot like the anime which I so adored....Then...I actually played a mission. The controls were insane! The leg movement is controlled by the digital pad and the torso is controlled by the analog stick. And worst of all, you can't remap the controller without a lot of trouble and time. This control setup was obviously a failed attempt to use the Mechwarrior control setup (all hail Mechwarrior!). I have to admit, the story line was very cool, and the characters were fairly interesting, but all in all, this was a very sorry addition to the incredible Gundam genre. Please do not let this game turn you off to the wonderful world of anime and Gundam. Perhaps blemishing the name of a great title was this Game's greatest crime.
