Klaxon_Oil's Full Review: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for Dreamcast
This is a dark version of Zelda which somehow reminds me of what it must be like to be a zombie. This is pretty much a game of revenge. Your former master Kain turned on you once you grew wings. Upon being killed you are revived and now the only thing mattering to you is destroying your former master. The controls are sometimes a little confusing when trying to use the camera to your advantage. However, there is a slight sick enjoyment when you impale your first vampire on a stick and swallow their soul! Over one thousand years your vampire clans have completely changed and mutated into skinless masses and or poor pieces of flesh just managing to stand. Vampires are the real enemies where as there is also the soul sucking monsters within the other realm. Be prepared to fight for your soul though when playing it's a great game.
Story 5/5
Your a former vampire lord betrayed by your lord Kain for adapting with a set of wings. The time for revenge has come to light. For one thousand years Kain has wrecked the earth and his other lords have slowly lost their place. Destroying the balance of humans and vampires. Sucking their blood without cause and hardly caring if their supply runs low. It is time for you to step forward and completely destroy all of them. What this is simply is a darker version of Zelda even though it's built with the Tomb Raider engine you collect life up blocks and what not.
Controls 4/5
Directing the camera is harder then it should be at times. Where as the buttons are placed correctly so as not to be forgotten when you need them the most. The controls are easy and usually only require one button press.
Voice Acting 5/5
No campy voice acting your goal is driven by your voice. Be, prepared to completely destroy your rivals. The haunting voices in the dead realm and vampires add to the effects of this darker then dark Zelda clone.
Sound 5/5
A nice and richly disturbing story line give this game a real kick. Nicely textured and weaved straight into the game it is awesome to listen to. Be prepared to not only be scared by the voice acting but of the music as well.
Over All
A dark version of Zelda be prepared for it. One of the nicer Dream Casts games ever made.
