Dumah's Full Review: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for Dreamcast
Soul Reaver...this is a great example of an excellent adventure/puzzle game
you start off with a great FMV that shows what your master, Kain, has done to you. after being awakened by an elder force, Whom cannot be seen, you begin your quest.
You are Raziel, a former servant to Kain, who is now a devourer of Souls.
you start when the elder force tells you that there are two planes. a material (where vamps and humans are), and a spectral (nothing more than sight). you must kill all that stands and consume their soul to survive on the material plane.
You will enjoy the confrontations by all types of vampires and impaling them against a spike on a wall (among other ways to kill them). you run through amazingly detailed dungeons and gothic castles as your relentless persuit of Kain draws closer and closer to an end. The graphics and sound work togeather as you turn that curve in the castle, when all is silent, then you hear a footstep as a vampire reveals itself with deadly intent.
The environment in the game is very interactive as you can kill a vamp by hurling it on a spike on the wall, or find that secret switch to a glyph (form of magic) hidden amongst a bloodstain.
The controls are excellent. you will find that you move around with ease.
That which i didn't like are a few things. The system used to swim in water is very confusing and just may force you to leave the material plane as you run into that vampire behind you.
I very much so expected the final battle with Kain to be much much more than it really was. it disappointed me. the same goes for the ending. it wasn't more than 5 minutes, and if you don't have the sequel to Soul Reaver right next to you (Eidos hasn't released it in the U.S. yet) ready to play it, the ending leaves you with a sense of nothingness.
overall however the game is great and you will never stop enjoying the rush of pushing a spear through a vampire and watching it squirm.
Cover up that neck 'cause five clans of vampires are out to get you! Loyal to their master, Kain, these bloodsuckers will do anything to protect him a...More at eBay
