temjin's Full Review: Resident Evil Code Veronica for Dreamcast
Well when it comes down to it, Code Veronica delivers the best in the horror genre. After all Resident Evil is the benchmark for just about all the games in the horror genre. And Code Veronica takes it to the next level of perfection. If you're a fan of Resident Evil than this is a must have, because like I've said before it's the best in the series. Anyway let me explain why this one is better than the rest. First off with the power of the dreamcast, this game delivers some of the smoothest graphics I've ever seen, and the environments are intreging. The sound is typical, however the music just sets the mood perfectly.
Now even as good as this game is, it has it's flaws, like control... the whole directional set up is beyond awkward, up is always up and down is always backwards no matter what direction you are facing. But it is more responsive than other RE games which is good, still it could be better.
Another thing that gets me is, is it scary? Not in my opinion. Honestly, did anyone really think the night of the living dead was scary, I'm sorry but zombies are slow dumb creatures. So lets talk about storyline, where do these zombies come from? I really don't know... but there is a thing called the "T-Virus" which makes numerous zombies, big spiders, bandersnatches (the swamp thing), hunters (big lizard dudes), and big moths. Now there are some interesting things to the story like the whole plan to change people to creatures so Alexia (The main boss) can eventually rule the world. As for scary games i'd have to say the most scariest game I've ever played is Enemy Zero. Anyway one more thing with the story is that even if you don't have the other games this story brings it all together.
So when it all comes down to the bottom line, this game delivers some of the best graphics ever seen, better gameplay, and better story than the previous RE's. So if you don't have it already I highly recommended it, if you like a challenge, and a good horror/adventure Code Veronica is where it's at.
