It is actually quite refreshing to see something so original come out, in a world of sequels.
In this game you have to raise a fish that talks, and has the face of a man. You can talk to Seaman, and he talks back. Seaman starts off as tiny fish, then they get bigger, and it slowly turns into a frog.
This game is darned cool. It is almost like a super advanced Furby. Not only does it talk, but you can have somewhat limited conversations with him.
I love this game; everything about it is put together real nicely. The sound, the environment, and everything else really give this “game” a nice feel.
The menus are easy to navigate, to switch from the tank to the two food sources; all you have to do is press the L trigger.
The interactivity in this game is great. Not only can you talk to Seaman, but also you can tickle him, and even pull him out of the tank. It is kind of funny when you tickle him he may say “not now I’m busy”, and when you pull him out of the tank he may call you Masher.
Seaman isn’t very talkative when he is first born. In fact he talks only mumbo jumbo at first, but as it gets older, it learns more and more words. Eventually it starts to probe your personal life. He asks you questions like if you have a girl/boy friend, your birthday (I learned that I have the same birthday as Mother Teresa thanks to Seaman) and what kind of job you have.
Seaman doesn’t always fully understand what you are saying. This can be frustrating, as when he doesn’t understand you he looks at you and says “WHAT”, this gets annoying, but you get used to it.
The graphics are good. Seaman looks like a real fish “with the face of a man though”, however sometimes when he talks, his lips don’t move.
The sound is nice, but there really isn’t much to make sounds of, I mean a fish talking? A heater running, and an air pump pumping?
There is a lot more to do than just talk to Seaman. You must also use the heater and pump to make sure Seaman is warm enough and it has enough air. You must also manage the food supply. The food supply itself requires management itself. You must make sure that the insects that you feed to Seaman have a moist enough of an environment, and that the cage isn’t overcrowded.
Overall Seaman is a good virtual pet simulator, but the loose voice recognition does hurt it, that’s why I didn’t give it a perfect score.
