Seaman. Well, what can I say. This is certainly something out of the ordinary. First, let me start by saying that this is not exactly a video game. It's more like a virtual pet that can communicate by talking.
The first time I saw the game on the Internet, I thought it would be pretty cool. This "game" is not what I expected, let me tell you that! The "game" is about a half man-half fish that was found in the city of Alexandria by a man who caught him while fishing. Dr. Jean Paul Gasse' met up with the man to get a sample of the eggs, which he took back to France. He tried to raise them, but failed. Now it's your turn to try your hands at Seaman.
You communicate with your Seaman through the microphone that comes with the game. It plugs into port 2 in your Dreamcast controller.
At first, he starts out as an egg, but then he evolves into a fish, then frog. When I put in the game the first time, I thought the "game" would be cool, but then it got really boring after it took a good bit of time for the eggs to hatch. Then once it hatched I got more into it. I taught it how to talk, from birth until about the third or fourth day. Then while I was gone for almost a day, I got home and checked on it. The announcer told me the bad news, my Seaman has died. I went to the tank and he was floating at the top of the water. It took me a couple of days before I started another one. I finally did, and I accidentally killed him too. I gave up. I'm not a good parent. :-(
GRAPHICS- This "game" has o.k. graphics, but they're nothing to gloat about. Seaman moves his mouth to the words and reacts to what you say, but there's some times when his mouth is closed, but he still talks. AMAZING-HE'S A MIME! NOT! There's some slowdown, like when there's five or six Seamen in the screen at once, doing their own things.
SOUND- The sound is crisp, but there's not much to hear. There's a constant sound of bubbles, which gets really annoying. And when Seaman starts to talk, you have to keep a good ear listening, because he might just ask you a question.
GAMEPLAY- Like I said earlier, this is not a game. There's not really all that much you have to do. You keep the tank a certain temp., keep the air a certain level, and make sure to feed them. Then, once you get the insect cage you have to keep it moist. Like I said, there's not all that much to do here.
In all, if you have a lot of time to waste, and you think you can handle parenthood,m then this "game" you may like. BUT, if you like video games, don't try this. This "game" is really a breakthrough technology, but it's not anything to get really excited about. This Game Get Old Quickly!!!
