I always get a little excited when I hear about the release of a new wrestling game. My mind starts to dance with visions of the wrestlers theme music, ring entrances, and special matches that will be included in the game, but when I got my hands on WWF Attitude for the Dreamcast I saw those hopes and dreams smashed before my very eyes.
Since it takes about 6 months from the release of one wrestling game to the next you can imagine the feeling of playing a sub-par one such as this. I wish I was two people so I could hate this game twice as much. There couldn't be any more things in this game for me to complain about.
First let's talk about how horrible the characters look. Sure they have the same outfits and costumes as the real thing and some ever kinda look like the guy but when they talk their mouths don't even move. You ever see those poor souls who have two broken arms in casts and they have those metal bars from their elbows to their waists? That's what the wrestlers in Attitude look like. The movement is as if their ankles are shackled together like some sort of prison chain gang. Could they walk any slower to the ring during their entrance? Not unless they were draging a soda machine behind them that had been tied to necks.
Trying to learn any of the moves is gut wrenching. You'd be better off doing one of the following:
1. placing the controller on the floor and kicking it near/around the buttons.
2. Smearing peanut butter on the controller and letting your dog lick it off. (I found Stone Cold Steve Austin's Finishing move this way.)
3.Taking the controller by the cord and swinging it around your head smacking it into the wall.
Just me on these. I've tried everything to get these "Mortal Kombat" style button pushes and stick movements down but the above 3 work the best.
There are a slew of modes (first blood, cage match, 2 on 1, Royal Rumble) but it's too little too late. The damage was done the second I closed the lid on the console. Cool modes don't make a bad rehashed Playstation title any better.
If I could meet the team responsible for making and producing this game I would slap them like when Mom brought home the wrong ice cream. It's games like this that make me ask someone somewhere to let bad things happen to them and their children. Do they test this stuff before it goes out or do they just let it go out the door on the deadline date? I really can't understand how anyone that would put their time and effort into making a game would let it go out with so many things wrong with it. Thankfully WWF yanked Acclaim's license and gave it to THQ and hopefully we will never see this kind of thing again.
