awoolcott's Full Review: WWF Attitude for Dreamcast
Yeah, I admit; I am a WWF junkie. I watch it every Monday, spend the $30 every month for the pay-per-views, all of it. So of course I would like to play the video game versions right? Right. Unless they are not worth the time. WWF Attitude isn't worth the time.
First off, the graphics show about 5 percent of the power of the Dreamcast. Probably less than that. Yes they are improved from the PlayStation version, but not much. The only real addition is the animated crowd (whoopee).
Outside of the very minor improvement of the graphics, not one single thing has changed. Not a single freakin' thing. The rosters are the same, despite being as out of date as a WCW storyline (whoops, no cheapshots remember). The music is the same, the menu screens are the same the match options are the same. It's like Acclaim took the PS game, touched up the graphics, tossed it in a DC box and sent it on it's way. Just to be the first wrestling game (now they have the second as well, ECW Hardcore Revolution, but I will not ever buy or play it, not after this joke).
What's worse, the speed of the game is slow. very slooooowwwwww. The wrestlers take an hour to walk down the aisle (pampered brats). Then when they hit the ring, it gets worse. Walking forward is okay, but when you back them up it looks like the old "metal pole shoved up their behind" trick. Must have spent the night at The Big Bossman's corrections facility. Plus, they have taunts. And geez, their mouths don't even move when they talk! WWF wrestlers must ventriloquists too! They walk and talk and execute moves like robots (I mean I know it's all predetermined, but come on it's not THAT fake).
Pulling off moves is even more fun. A simple up,down command produces what? An Armbar. Oh joy! What a classic torture move. Gotta be The Rock's new finisher. Seriously, the moves are sometimes impossible to pull off. Each wrestler has about 30 moves or so, but some are so darn hard to pull off it's not worth it.
The only redeeming quality of WWF Attitude is the Create-A-Wrestler mode. It is flat out brilliant. You can create darn near anything you can imagine, to super skinny bald guys, to a super-heavyweight fat guy in a tutu. Not pretty by the way. You can also customize theme music, fan affiliation (face or heel, good guy or bad guy, whatever you call it), even voice (some of the built in non WWF ones are a riot). Plus you can create a custom move set starting from scratch. Too bad it's not worth the time to then actually PLAY the game with your created wrestlers.
Overall, I highly advise you to stay away from this game. Yeah, if you are a Dreamcast owner looking for a wrestling game, it may entice you, but really, it's not worth the torture of actually owning this pile of garbage. If you want a wrestling game, get WWF Smackdown. Now that's a wrestling game.
