trjlangdon's Full Review: World Series Baseball 2K2 for Dreamcast
World Series Baseball 2K2 is a very nice upgrade from last years horrible 2K1 version. This year, you do get to control your fielders, as manual fielding was initialized. There also are more modes of play to choose from, such as Franchise mode and Network (online play). Franchise play in my mind, is horrible. First, there are no contract negotiations, as you don't sign players to contracts. Instead, when a players contract is up, he is dumped into a pool of other free agents, and then there is a draft. The worst team picks first, so the Tigers, naturally will take Pedro Martinez, and Pedro can't say no, because no other team can offer him more money. Now on to online play. Online play is both good and bad. It is good in the sense in that it adds more challenge to the game, and it is fun to play others from around the country in a game of baseball. Also, the servers keep track of your wins, losses, and "drops" (disconnections). But on the other hand, the online play up to this point it horrible. When pitching, you do not control where the pitch goes, and it is always in the strike zone, close to the middle. You also cannot type to the other person during a game, unlike NBA and NFL 2K1. Pre-game substitutions are also forbidden, and that is a big minus for the game. Create-A-Player is nice, with many options to customize your player. World Series Baseball 2K2 is a game I recommend buying for people who love baseball and are into sports, and to those who like online play, and can stand a few changes from the other online sports games.
