johnjoh's Full Review: Worms Armageddon for Dreamcast
Worms is a fun strategy puzzle game. There are a lot of weapons and tools to use, different gameplay modes (single player, single quickstart, single training, single mission [solve puzzles], single deathmatch, multiplayer deathmatch], make you own game), and the landscape changes (in Deathmatch and quickstart games). You can customize your team with your names, so you can build an attachement to your team.
In Worms, you are supplied with various weapons and tools (bazooka, grenades, clutter grenades, shotgun, rope, exploding sheep, etc.), and you manuever and attack enemy worms through various landscapes that you use to your strategic game. You can hide behind hills, blow up holes into the land, dig into it, etc. to your benefit, and your enemies demise.
Graphically, Worms is cute, but with a slight edge. The worms say cheezy stuff like "Ah, c'mon," "Get on with it," or "The first of many," after you hit one of the others with a weapon. It's a cartoony look, and the animations' are decent, although there aren't many (jumping, slithering, etc.) The landscapes are drawn well and are interesting, and there seems to be an abundance of landscapes, so it's not too boring.
Overall, Worms is a dynamic game, and it's fun to play.
HOWEVER, there are some drawbacks. I found gameplay a bit slow when your in the singleplayer modes. For some reason, when it is the computer's turn, it has to sit there and think as if it was another person. It would have been better if it just started moving as soon as you finished. Also, when you play multiplayer, you have to hand the controller over to the next player. I'm not sure why they made the game that way. When I'm playing a game, I was ownership over my controller!! The only other thing I can think of is that this game has a slight learning curve, it takes a while to learn how to drop a grenade accurately. You'll also need free blocks on your VMU (Virtual Memory Unit) in order to save your teams and training and missions. You have to pass your training before you can start a mission.
