jeremyf's Full Review: Harvest Moon for Game Boy Color
Harvest Moon is a unique game. It's a "farming sim" -- don't laugh! This game will keep you playing for weeks.
Concept: You inherit a farm and what you do with it is your choice. You can try to make as much money as you can, give your farm character, befriend the local gnomes or whatever else you feel like. There's an immense amount of depth in this game, after a while you'll feel like buying a farm. However, it's fairly complex for a Game Boy Game and, depending on your amount of experience with RPG's or sims (I'm not sure exactly which category this fits in) it might take you an hour or so (at most!). Because of this, it's not a game you want to give to small children (unless they're really gifted farmers). Also, if you're more into fast-action fighting or shooter games, you may want to avoid this. If you like games like SimCity or Final Fantasy, you'll want to get this! I personally think it's better than both.
Note #1: There are two Gameboy versions of this game, a normal one and a Color version. You should definitely get the color version, it has enhanced features (including one where gnomes can work on your farm while you're not playing) and it works on black-and-white Gameboys.
Note #2: There's a Super Nintendo version and an N64 version also. They all differ, but if you like the N64 more than the Gameboy you may want to buy that instead (or get both!). They both have different features but the N64 looks nicer and has a bunch more features (like dating etc) which makes it more like a "life" sim than a "farming" sim.
