Harvest Moon is a great non-violent, puzzle/strategy game that makes you think in order to maximize how well you do in the game. The main objective is to make money with your farm. The details are what make this game fun to play and challenging. You have to make sure all different parts of your farm are running at well in order to reap the benefits. You can try gardening or livestock (or both) in order to reach your goals.
The gameplay is methodic and not fast paced. Time management is also important here as there are only so many hours in the day. The controls are very simple and you can probably play the game without even reading the manual. In game instructions help you along the way. The replay factor is high as you can try different methods of generating money.
Lastly, this is an excellent game if you are worried about all the violent games out there. It would be a stretch to call this game educational, but it definitely is miles away from the mindless shot 'em ups out there.
