tmn516's Full Review: Harvest Moon for Game Boy Color
I got the Game Boy version on the advice of my daughter who's opinion I value highly. And I fell in love with it. There is no violence in it at all and it is has no real end to it so you can play it forever I guess.
Then they came out with the Nintendo 64 version and I couldn't find it anywhere, until today. Someone made the mistake of selling it to a used bookstore. So I snatched it up because I knew it would not be there for very long.
The premise of this game is that you inherit the farm from your recently deceased Grandfather. It is your job to make the farm productive with plants and animals. So you go about busting up rocks, chopping away at tree stumps and making the land ready to plant potatoes and such. As you sell your crops you will receive money for those crops and in turn you will be able to buy chickens, cows and sheep.
You even get to woo the girl of your dreams so you can be a married man. The only flaw so far in the game if you ask me since I am a girl and I think they should have given you the option of being a boy or a girl in the game. Also I would have liked to have a choice between a cat or a dog.
I just love this game even though some of the graphics could have been a little better. The houses disappear and reappear as you walk around. A minor detail to be sure but it is forgivable. The mayor looks like a clown and I hate clowns but you don't see him that often so that is okay too. The music is repetitive but all video game music gets irritating after a while so I just turn it down.
Still these are minor flaws and not worth worrying about because the game is still very fun to play. I still love this game.
