Okay. You've got a rundown farm. You've got a year. You've got...a LOT of work ahead of you. But cheer up! There's money to be made, and pets to have, and cows to milk, and chickens to feed...
Such is your lot in life in Natsume's Gameboy Color port of their popular Harvest Moon series. You're an aspiring farmer, and your goal is to become a successful farmer, and maybe even a Ranch Master! But to do this, you have to make a successful farm. And that means clearing land, buying seed, planting crops and grass, raising livestock, treating your Harvest Sprites right, improving your house, and more. But you do have all sorts of tools...many of which can be improved to more useful versions that conserve your strength. That's right, you're not Superman or Wonder Woman - work too hard, and you'll kiss the dirt.
Harvest Moon is a fun game. It's not violence that gets you ahead here - it's hard work. And the fact that you have to do the same things over and over shows to young gamers the virtue of hard work. But, sadly, some of the features in the console version are gone, such as the "dating/mating game", where you tried to date the eligible women of the local villiage, and maybe, if you were lucky, win one of their hearts and marry. But still, it's a solid game for all types of gamers. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some cows to feed...
