You may be asking yourself, why in the world would I want to buy a farming game? Because it's cute--that's why! This game is adorable, appealing to (so far) my 21-year old sister, myself (aged 25) and the daughter of my best friends, who is 11 years old. And for those strategy gamers out there, this game is definitely addictive, keeping you tending your garden and animals just so you can watch them grow.
Story Line:
The story line is pretty basic. Your job is to make sure the farm right outside of town becomes productive within the next 3 years. Otherwise, it will be turned into an entertainment park. You grow crops and raise chickens, cows and sheep. You can choose to be a girl or a boy and you will receive different items in-game depending on your choice.
Graphics:
Considering the Gameboy screen is only a couple inches wide, I would say the graphics on this are pretty good. There's only so much you can do on a screen that small. I have had some problems distinguishing between the different farming tools though but after some time, you become able to recognize them easier.
Play:
Play is fairly easy and you catch on quick. Do make sure to read the book though because it tells what all of the tools are for and the basics for running the farm. Also, you receive a "book" in-game that helps with any questions you have. The major problem I have is when tilling the land or planting seeds, you have to be in just the right spot for you to hit the right squares of land. This can become frustrating, especially since the character tires so quickly.
Options:
There are 2 save slots, allowing you to play both a girl and a boy to see the differences. When starting a new game though, it is a little confusing since it asks if you want to erase previous data. You have to pick 'yes' to start the new game, although choosing 'yes' does not delete your other saved game. You also receive the ability to trade flowers and bugs with a friend's Gameboy. I have not been able to test this option yet since none of my friends actually have the game. :)
Cons:
The character gets tired easily and you have to rest often while tilling land. Although this is easily accomplished, it just gets repetitive. Also, and I know this is trivial, but the character name (and any pets/animals you have) can only be 4 characters long. This seems pretty limited to me.
Overall:
Overall, this is a cute, entertaining game and a definite change from the "fighting" games. I have found it fun to play with only a few minor irritations.
