Pros:Fun, easy to control, lots of levels
Cons:Not made in color
This game puts you into the well known Mario's shoes. You must go around, beat the bad guys, and restore peace to the land. Of course, this is the classic good vs evil plot, but if your looking for a way to use some of your time it's always fun.

The Game Play
This mario game, unlike many others, allows you to choose which level you want to play. Most of the levels are each inside of 6 different worlds, and you can choose which world you want to play. Even inside the worlds, you have an option of different levels. Each world also has a secret level that you must get to by doing something special inside a regular level. Once you beat a world, you get a golden coin which is required to get to wario.
Each level is strictly 2D.You can move either left or right, and in many cases the screen moves right so you have no choice as to where you can go. Being 2D doesn't effect this game's play at all. The graphics aren't what makes this game fun, it's how you go around kicking all the bad guy's butt. Besides, is there a game boy game out there with good graphics?
If any of you know the basic mario, you pretty much know what powerups there are in this game. Mario always starts out as a small person who has to jump on top of guys to kill them. One hit and the precious hero mario is dead, so it's almost a necesity to find the powerups in this game. A mushroom makes you bigger, but with the same capabilities. A flower gives you the ability to shot fireballs, and a carrot(yes, a carrot) gives you bunny ears so you can fly/glide around. Even though these might seem very basic and old, they still make the game fun. Perhaps the most fun power up is the fire power, which always gets me into the game trying to shoot everything i see.
This mario, unlike the first mario, allows you to save your game. This makes it unbelievably more fun to play, because if you turn it off you don't have to repeat the first levels all over again. Another nice thing in this game is how you actually use the coins that you collect in the game. Outside of the actually levels, in the place where you choose which level you want to play, there is a kind of casino. You get to choose from an array of slot machines, and each gives anything from fire power to 99 lives. This just adds another twist into the game that makes it more fun. Another nice feature, is that at the end each level, if you get to the harder ending, you can play a game to win lives. Perhaps what is the best feature in this game, is how you can reply any level you wish, except the very first one. Because you can do this, you don't have to restart your game to play old levels.
Overall, this game is pretty decent and even today is fun to play. The only draw back is that it wasn't made for color, so some of the other games out there look better. But if you're bored, it's a fun way to pass the time.
