The Bottom Line: Easy controls, fun levels and tricks, good graphics and replay value. The music is lame, and the lighting can be bad, but still a great game.

I was a latecomer to the whole Tony Hawk phenomenon. I first played Tony Hawk on the ill-fated Dreamcast. The controls were retarded and I did horrible. Then, I rented the N64 version. It was better, and I had more time to learn how to play. I certainly didn't very good at it, but I could tell there was something very special about this franchise. So when I got my GBA, I decided to get THPS2 as my first GBA game. I was a little worried that it wouldn't translate well into the 32-bit 2-D world. I was also worried that it would be difficult to get the hang of the controls. After just a little bit of play, I realized that I had worried over nothing. The GBA version of this game is my favorite so far. It is incredibly fun, and addictive. There are so many goals to accomplish, you will be playing for a very long time. I've had the game for about 4 months, and I still have about 10 goals that I haven't accomplished. The graphics are obviously not as good as the N64 or Playstation versions, but for a handheld, they are really pretty good. Activision was able to make the 3-D elements of the game work in a 2-D world. The jumps and tricks are just as fun and they look pretty cool. The only problem is the lighting. You pretty much have to play directly under some sort of light source in order to see well. Some areas are better than others, but there are enough dark spots to make it pretty hard to play without a light over the screen.
Overall, this is a really fun game with good replay value. It's fun just to play around and try to get high scores, even when you're not trying to accomplish the level goals. The competition levels add a great deal as well. You can play them over and over to try to improve your score. The levels are big, and interesting. Control is excellent, and fairly easy to master, especially when compared with other versions of the game. I highly reccommend Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 for the Game Boy Advance.
