nurdt01's Full Review: Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn
I pre-ordered BG2 from Interplay during the summer. I had enjoyed playing BG, so I figured this would be the same thing, but with a different storyline. I was right, but I was also very wrong. The basics of the game are still the same(go places, fight things, finish quests to gain experience). Everything else is different! There are several new classes to choose from when starting a new character, new weapons and weapon styles (including two weapon style- one weapon in each hand), The interface has been updated (you can choose to hide all of the panels and play the game in full screen), and many annoying things have been fixed. For instance, the journal is separated into three parts- Quests, done quests, and Journal. The only part of the game that Black Isle didn't fix, but only made worse was the map. In BG, you discovered new places on the map just by walking around. In BG2, you are restricted to those places that you know about on the map. I guess they needed to do that, or else the game would have been about double the size that it is now.
Overall, I think BG2 is probably one of the best PC RPG's I have ever played. The sound is great, the graphics are even better than the first one, the gameplay can be a little difficult at times, but all you have to do is keep trying, and eventually you will come through in the end.
I almost forgot to mention the FRICKIN HUGE DRAGONS that you fight! Take my advice- run past him until you are at a higher level!
