Pros: Good graphics, wild driving and jumps. Awesome multiplayer Beetle Battle mode.
Cons: Steering is a little loose and frustrating. Not enough quality Beetle Battle Boards. And it's only beetles, no other car models.

| capcap's Full Review: Beetle Adventure Racing for Nintendo 64 |
Beetle Racing is NOT a racing sim. It's an over the top racing game with wild jumps and a variety of items to crash through. However, I'd have to say I'd be a little disappointed with the game if it wasn't for an insanely addictive multiplayer mode called Beetle Battle. The objective of Beetle Battle is to be the first player to collect 6 different colored ladybugs which pop up throughout the board. The fun part though is the battling. You can destroy your opponents car with heat sinking missiles, , stealer rockets, bombs, or just plain ramming. Each time you destroy an opponents car you earn a ladybug. It's an awesome amount of fun. There are only 3 battle boards to start with but you can earn 6 more in the regular race mode. The game is worth buying for Beetle Battle mode alone. Make sure you get the code though to turn the radar off and to speed up the color change of the ladybugs.
The regular race mode has 6 boards and is very enjoyable. However the steering is not tight enough and becomes very frustrating, especially in the later boards. It's a challenging racer and their are plenty of "cheat boxes" to be found throughout the boards. Additional beetle battle boards are unlocked when you get all 100 bonus points on a board, not an easy task.
Bottom line: If you have some friends to play Beetle Battle with, buy it now! I enjoy Beetle Battle much more than Vigilante 8.
