| Outbanks's Full Review: Beetle Adventure Racing for Nintendo 64 |
I do have to admit, this game was pretty fun. The graphics weren't too bad, the sound was decent, and the courses were fairly interesting. I loved the fact that in practically every level, there is some hidden area that adds a unique twist to the game. However, there were so many things I disliked about the game. First, I don't like the controls as much. Second, I don't like the fact the car shatters if you smash into something. This not only takes more time than a simple crash, but it is much more annoying. Third, I don't like the style of multiplayer modes as much. I enjoy something where a person has a limited number of lives, and you get a few interesting weapons, like in Mario Kart, and you just shoot the other car. In this game, however, there are many different weapons, many of which I find completely useless, and you have to try to collect different color beetles. It just isn't as exciting. Fourth, there are some glitches in the game. I have used a specific car, and reached a certain top speed. A friend has then chosen the same car, right down to the color, pressed the same buttons, on the same race, using the same difficulty, and gone 30 mph faster than I did. And trust me, I was doing it correctly. There are other aspects about this game that aren't as favorable, so if you are indeed looking for an adventure, I suggest you try a different game. If you don't have Mario Kart, I'd go with that.
