Pros: Graphics are smooth
Cons: BAFFLING: If you are baffled it is a matter of time before you get BORED!
In Nintendo's first generation game, Blast Corp., tremendous brain power is required. This is not your typical Twisted Metal or shoot 'em up game! Only the most skillful game player should get their hands on this! For the general players, leave this up to the professional! It look simple, but don't let the smooth and tiny Tonka trucks deceive you!
World peace is quickly breaking down as panic is stirring a crisis that would bring "World War III." This is a result from leaking radiation coming from nuclear missiles. The missiles must be transported to a safe place free from harm.
"Your mission, should you choose" (-Mission Impossible) is to utilize a plethora of man made object. You have to drive a yellow "Tonka" truck and smash buildings into smithereens. Not only that you get to conduct a train with 3 trailers, a fast moving go-kart, and a lot more vehicles, you get to fly when you get inside of a tall, orange and blue robot. The robot uses two rocket thrusters, like Rocketman, giving a great breath taking view above the ground.
Your job is to destroy buildings and save the people of civilization so the semi-truck, containing the leaking nuclear missile, could expeditiously make the trip "across the globe" with the least amount of harm.
By flying on a robot, I enjoy a breath taking view equivalent of flying a jet 1000 feet above ground! By pushing the A button, I fly to see green patches of forests, red suspension bridges, and hover 10 feet above the highest peak!
I certainly enjoy driving the yellow "Tonka" truck and watching blue and yellow fireballs shoot out from buildings. It is spectacular to watch and you will ask "Where could I find more buildings to smash and DESTROY!?"
As you see, I am struggling to write this epinion on a game I am truly disappointed. My cousin has rented this game and left me to play it. It is Bloody BORING! When I write reviews, chances are that I have more written statements on the pro side. This time it is unfortunate to write a 1 star review FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!
Why? You ask. Why is this game so bloody boring? No progress is ever made. I go into a stage and try out 1 vehicle at a time. I try out all the buttons and all I can do is move, smash, and destroy. The objectives I read sound more like my C++ programming manual! It is way beyond my comprehension! There is in average of 5 sub-mission for every one whole mission! Therefore, confusion brings boredom!
The sound is disappointing. Explosions and other effects are muffled as if they were recorded on cassettes. Don't expect the music to be any good. They are typical low budget MIDI game songs. Rare has tried to make the soundtrack serious. My guess is since Nintendo is a family system, Nintendo had to "censor" video, sound, and music from teen ratings to K-A rating. The only best song that uplifts me is a 110 beat per minute country music similar to the country song in Zelda 64.
As I said it. This game is only recommended for the experts who wants a challenge. Only the top game fans will actually devote time to beat this game. If you liked Sim City, Blast Corps is worth checking out.
Not Recommended for:
The general game players. This game is painful! I sighed as I wished to have a strategy guide to help me through. Unfortunately, I only had 5 days to try it out before I had to return it. Little kids will say, "Mommy this game is too hard!" or "I can't beat this game it's too booring!" So parents: go for Mario, don't let the simplicity of small action vehicles make you think that your child will love micro machines. Progress is the best part of the game. Without one the game "stalls". This sense of "stall" leads to confusion. Confusion wastes time. As time is wasted frustration takes place. Finally comes the sigh and Ugh! XX( BOREDOM! & ABANDON SHIP! Unless you have played this game and it appeals to you, don't make the same mistake I did. I payed not only $5 but 2 hours of my free time try to solve this baffling mystery! With 2 hours I could have wrote another fantastic epinion! I had to declare ABANDON SHIP, after 2 hours from scratch, so don't ask me if I beat the game.
Get a friend, who knows this game well, he is the one who will save your "ship" from being sunk by a torpedo(boredom & impatience). If you don't know a person to help you out, your other option is to get a strategy guide or a game magazine that is likely to give you hints. Contact Nintendo, they could refer and help you out to get hint books on Blast Corps.
Although I gave a 1 for Blast Corp., I truly enjoyed writing my first 1 star epinion. For the first time ever, I got to experience something that has happened for the first time in my 18 years of life. The abandon ship. I just hope to be on a stronger ship than Titanic. In other words, I hope I will never have to deal with such mind boggling game! I am fortunate it did not give me a headache!
