Dbbum's Full Review: Brunswick Circuit Pro Bowling for Nintendo 64
One of the first superior bowling games for the PC, Brunswick Circuit Pro Bowling makes it's appearance from a reputable gaming company called THQ. I bought this game when it first came out, almost two years ago now, and the game is still by far the best out there. I paid $30 for it, and nowadays can be found for less than $15 easily.
GAMEPLAY
One of the first things you notice is the superior game play within Brunswick Circuit Pro Bowling. There are two modes of characters to choose from. You can pick from a numerous amount of professional bowlers, or make your own personalized character from scratch. There are only six different balls to pick from, which isn't alot when you think about the possibilities in real life. They are, however, different in their own way to provide for every different bowling style.
MODES OF PLAY
There are a few modes to play. You can play a regular round with yourself or other human and/or computer players. There is a tournament mode as well. You can pick which tournament to play in, and how you go about qualifying for the finals. Play 8 games of qualifying, or no games of qualifying, go straight to the finals, or play a full 32 game tournament mode. The options are nearly unlimited. Then there is a "skins" game where you can play for money. If you've ever watched this on tv you know how it works. Basically you roll once and whoever gets the strike in that frame receives a determined amount of money. This can be done against humans or computer players. Lastly, there is a cosmic bowling option. Obviously, you bowl in the dark with flashy colored balls & pins. This is just for fun, maybe to be done with a few friends online or just at night together sometime.
GRAPHICS & SOUND
The graphics are completely incredible. When you roll the ball, it looks almost realistic. If you have a 3D card, you are even more blessed because you can see the oil on the lanes, along with the glare of the pins. This makes the game so much better. Play movements are not jittery or jerky, unless your computer is not capable to handle the 3D load. The only drawback here is the audience, which looks like a cardboard cutout from Toys 'R' Us or Chuck E Cheese. There is a full 16 track play list of songs with the game. These tracks play before & after rolling the ball, but can be shutoff in the options. Same goes for regular audience clapping and alley noises, they can be adjusted or shutoff altogether.
ONLINE MODE
If you are playing the PC version, you have the option to play online with other people. Using another FREE program called "Mplayer" you can play online with others. This program is only a few MB's so you shouldn't have any troubles with this. While online, you can play regular exhibition games, or cosmic bowling with up to (6 players per game I think). An internet connection is required for the online mode to function.
CONCLUSION
Whether you are playing the PC/PSX version, you'll find that this is one of the best bowling games out there today! Keyboard/Gamepad keys are easy to use, so that's why I didn't go over that section...they are just way to simple. So if you are a fanatic of bowling in anyway, this is the game to get.
