Cons: dull story line
Move to the moves of "Bust a Move '99". This little bubble shooter could arguably be the best of the Bust a Move (BaM) series, if you liked any of the others you are going to love this one. BaM '99 has many new added features that will keep you hooked for hours on end. The game sports so many different modes and so many different rounds that when you replay a round you hardly notice. This was one of the fatal flaws of previous versions of the game; the lack of levels quickly led you to the mastering of each level, and the eventual trashing of the game.
Well do not expect that to happen in this version! BaM '99 has more than enough levels for you to sink your teeth into; the collection mode (on the playstation console) has over 1000 levels. Then there is the arcade mode in which you can either play the normal puzzles, or a different version of the game called "version 2.5". Also in the arcade mode, you can choose to play against the computer or you can play against a friend (which also has add ins of its own).
I have only given you a little insight to two of the five modes that this game has. Moreover, with the addition of edit mode where you can create your own levels I guarantee that your social life may come to a screeching halt, well unless you invite a friend over. The game in itself one of the best BaM versions that I have played, but one thing kept it on the "side of LULL," and that is the ridiculous and somehow just thrown together story line.
On first sight I thought it might be cool, but after a few runs through the game the characters get to be annoying with there constant spouting of word in Japanese that you probably don't even understand. As with any game with a weak story line, the endings were just as weak; the entire sequence at the end of the arcade mode is comprised of a single picture with some text. Most often times, if you are any good, they just tell you how good a player you are. The story is terrible but not terrible enough to keep me away from this stellar shooter, I give it my seal of approval for hours of gaming fun.
