gemini_666's Full Review: Destruction Derby for Nintendo 64
One of the more fun games for the Nintendo 64 console, is this one, Destruction Derby 64. This game is a geat 64 game to play with your friends. It will keep you coming back for more. Even though you may beat it in like 5 minutes, it is still a star title at it’s best. It has awesome tracks designed perfectly with great graphics although the cars look kind of bizzaar. With plenty of shortcuts to find and some pretty good sound you should love this title.
You can have awesome derbys. You can even play this one where you have a bomb on your car and you got to give it to another car before it explodes on you. Other than that, you can race other cars on tracks like derbys except you have to pass check points as well as try to smash other cars to pieces. This is probably one of the more fun games that I own. Every thing in this game is good, but it isn't the most superior game I have played. However, this is one of the best car racing, derbying, smashing games I’ve ever played.
GAMEPLAY **10**
The gameplay is different depending on the car. Some cars may steer better than others but that’s how most car driving games are. The controls to move, brake, reverse, and accelerate are simple and the N64’s controller works quite well with this game. The controls are very simple nothing that requires a lot of challenging tasks. The gameplay of this game is very smooth.
SOUND **8**
The sounds and music in this game are just like many other driving games. You can hear the car accelerate or hit another car. It’s the usual; nothing really special just like any other driving game. The sounds all throughout the game are detailed and sound great. Everything is here. All of the music in this game is very good and sounds great.
GRAPHICS **9**
The graphics are quite realistic. They have just one problem that some of the cars look kind of like a box. Everything is detailed very good and looks great. The level designs are awesome very detailed and are full of surprises. Each level is very different and is unique in its own way. All of the levels are very detailed and have all kinds of hidden portions. On derby tracks they may have ramps or other obstacles. The levels are well done and are some of the best track designs I’ve seen in quite some time. The tracks have shortcuts and obstacles to dodge.
REPLAY **7**
It has lots of tracks to beat and to try to find all of the shortcuts is a challenging task. It has awesome multiplayer functions that will keep you busy for a long time. With many cars to win, this game will keep you busy for quite some time. Playing this game by yourself, might not be as exciting and replay may be low. The thing that makes this game so fun is just racing, until you can draw the levels freehand with your eyes closed and hands tied behind your back.
CHALLENGE **4**
The main game challenge in this game is very easy but once you beat it you’ll probably want to do it again to collect the other cars. The Derbys are the more fun aspect of the game. The key there is to mostly drive your car backwards. Overall, the game isn't too challenging.
