Very fast

Written: Dec 21 '01
Pros:Very fast. Good music. Interesting track design.
Cons:Could get old after a while.
The Bottom Line: Very fast game with good track design and music.

Extreme-G is a futuristic 'extreme' racing game. You as the player ride a two-wheeled rocket bike through futuristic cities and landscapes. And you do it very quickly. This game is all about speed, and you fly through tunnels, over jumps, and around loops. In addition to racing past your opponents, you also have a variety of weapons that help to move them out of your way. Each bike has a low-powered primary weapon, and you can pick up other, more powerful weapons on the track.

You start out with 4 or 5 tracks and you can unlock all 12 (+ 1 bonus) by playing through the challenge mode. There are three different circuits with three different difficulty levels each. Beating expert mode will usually give you a new bike or the bonus track. Beating the other difficulties will give you a name code which will do some crazy things like make the game even faster, or turn the bikes into rolling rocks. If you don't want to beat the game so many times to get the codes (there are many of them and they are random, so it's hard to get them all), you can get them somewhere like GameFAQs.com. There are several different modes of play for both single and multiplayer. This game does use the memory card to save, but it also has a password system.

Graphics: The graphics are pretty clear, and the framerate good most of the time when there aren't a lot of explosions on screen at once. There is some fog/pop-up, but it's not too bad. The track designs are pretty cool with lots of loops and jumps through futuristic cities.

Sound: The music is very good. It is high energy techno/trance and fits the game very well. The weapon and engine sound effects are also very nice.

Control: The control is easy to pick up, and if you don't like it, the buttons are fully changeable, which is a very nice feature.

Overall, a solid racing game that will keep you busy for a while, and that you will come back to every once in a while for a quick race.
