phungus's Full Review: Extreme-G XG2 for Nintendo 64
I just bought this game at toys r us for 20 bucks. I figured that if it kept me mildly entertained, it would be worth it. I've been playing it all weekend and my verdict is: It's worth it.
Extreme-G XG2 is a futuristic motorcycle-like racing game. It's extremely fast paced and you have a nice little selection of bikes and tracks to play on.
The only kind of racing games that I enjoy are the ones where you get to shoot and blow up your opponents, and you can do that in XG2. You have a wide variety of weapons from missiles, mines, smoke clouds, machines guns, and much more.
Each track is very nicely detailed and has several little quirks to make it interesting. Most have at least one or two hard-to-reach shortcuts routes that require some quick manuevering in order to get into.
XG2's graphics are really amazing, which makes up for the bad sound. The music is fairly cheesy technojunk and the sound is reduced to scraping and grinding sounds when you run into things. Because you are on futuristic bikes, you don't get to hear real motor sounds - instead, you hear an electric motor kind of whine.
If you like racing games, or fast paced games, you may want to give this one a shot. It's suitable for all ages and makes use of both the rumble and expansion packs.
