jedipac's Full Review: Golden Eye 007 for Nintendo 64
Rare produces a miracle on the Nintendo 64, and it's a good one too.
Goldeneye 007 for the N64 brings intense action, tons of multiplayer modes, and all the levels and characters based on the movie. Sound and
character design make the game look like the movie itself. 007 fans and
action fans with an N64, your search for a great game is over. Goldeneye
007 might make the N64 look like the dream machine "shaken, not stirred".
The graphics in Goldeneye 007 are very realistic. The characters move
swiftly through the beautiful backrounds even when you're shooting them
down. The introduction of the beginning of the game really looks like the
classic 007 intro from the movies. The weapons were nicely designed as
well. Some weapons were straight out from past and present movies by the
way. The graphics really shine in the graphics department.
The sound in 007 is great but could have been better. The beautiful,
classic Bond music follows you through every intense shooting moment of
the game. The music is the only thing that you'll hear throughout the game though. The characters don't talk. It would've been a nice touch
from Rare if the characters actually spoke and followed the story-line
just like the movie. This won't bother you though, the gameplay makes up
for any left-out touches that Rare could have added.
The gameplay in Goldeneye 007 is the best I've seen on the N64 yet. The
game will keep you busy for a pretty long time. Each level must be beaten
on 3 different difficulty levels. Agent, Secret Agent, and 00 Agent.
Each level features different mission objectives that must be completed.
Some missions are added when you choose the hardest difficulty level.
There are around 20 levels, not all of them become available at once.
The last two (Aztec and Egyptian) are the hidden ones. Cheats will become
available when you finish each level at the required time. Multiplayer
action is intense in every way. Lots of characters to chose from (not
including the hidden ones) and all the weapons you could dream of.
Goldeneye 007 is one complete package of a great game. If you're craving
for a hot action game with intense combat in every level, then Goldeneye
007 is just for you. I recommend this game when I say, "The name's Bond,
James Bond".
