| Nintendo64PSX's Full Review: Mario Party 2 for Nintendo 64 |
Mario Party is a simple yet addictive game. You and 3 friends(or you and 3 computers or a mixture of that) are pitted in a gameboard. First off, before this happens you choose a series of things. You must choose the board first and depending on the board you, Toad wears something different and you do to after you pick a character. For example, in Space Land your characters and Toad wear a space suit. Anyway choosing a gameboard, you choose a character. Your list is small but includes the whole Mario crew (plus DK who is kind of in the Mario crew if anyone remembers the OLD mario games). You choose from Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, Yoshi, and DK. Then you choose your comp players (Remember, 4 players MUST play) and you choose their setting. Then you pick how many rounds you want to play. I, everytime, choose 20 rounds. 20 Rounds lasts you a good hour! You may also choose 30 rounds and 50 rounds and I wonder how long 50 rounds takes. Anyway, then you choose whether you want bonus. Bonus is special awards awarded at the end of the game. This includes person with most coins ever owned at one point of the game, most minigame coins, and most happening star or the person who landed on the ? the most.
So, each person rolls the dice and the character moves the pieces shown. Most of the time you land on the blue space which gives you +3 coins. There are other places you may land including the red which gives you -3. There are many others spaces each something different.
Anyway, at the end of the round, each player plays a mini-game. These minigames are varied and most of the games are all right. A few games really suck and Hudson should of fixed them. For example, in "Shy Guy Says" you raise the flag Shy Guy shows. Okay, good, BUT THERE IS NO TIMER AND THE GAME IS EASY! So, if your playing with someone, this game will take you a LOONGG while. Winning a minigame gets you +10. There are also bonus minigames that gets you more coins. The point of this game is to get the most amount of stars. You get stars by going to the spot where Toad is and paying him 20 coins. The person with the most stars at the end of the game wins. Remember those Bonus awards? Well if you get a awarded, you get another star. You may also steal stars from someone by visiting Boo which is somewhere on the board. That's basically it.
There are 6 boards including - Pirate Land, Horror Land, Space Land, Western Land, Bowser Land, and Mystery Land. The graphics in this game suck. Like Super Smash, there are many jaggies in this game and polygons stick out. You look at the board in a bird's eye view and the boards are all right. Even though the game is colorful, there are way too many problems.
Sound is also bad. There isnt that many noises and the music remians the same. Not varied, just a few tunes. Not good.
This game is quite addicting however, again - like SSB you really need siblings who like video games if you want to buy this game and play it for awhile. Computers just get boring after awhile.
