Ever since I played the original Mario Party, I was craving for a sequal. That was the most fun I'd ever had with a videogame. When Mario Party 2 was announced I knew I had to have it. Now that I finally do here is my impression on it.
In the Mario Party series you are on a game board. You hit the dice and move that many spaces on the board, landing on various spaces. Some give you 3 coins, some take 3 away, while others make you shell out 5 or more coins. There is a bank and everytime you pass it you must pay 5 coins, but the lucky one who lands on it will get all the coins stored up inside it, sometimes resulting in a person bringing in over 50 coins in one turn!
After each round of turns you play a mini-game. This is where all the fun is, there are "4 Player Battle Mode" where its every man for himself, "2 on 2" where the players split on teams and play a mini-game, and "3 vs 1", usually where the 1 person gets the advantage. Usually in 3 on 1 games the 1 person will be huge or have a hammer chasing the other 3 hoping to smash them all before the time is up. It's a blast.
The sound effects are here but quite annoying. After everyone loses a mini-game you'll hear a loud, high voice yelling "DRAW!!" it gets annoying. The music played during gameplay is good though, it seems to go along with the mini-games, I like it.
A downfall to this game is a few options removed from the original Mario Party. Now after the mini-games everyones coins and stars go into the bank, even the computer controlled players. This makes the game a little less fun because there is no point in stealing their stars or anything like that. Also stars are now turned into coins and you don't even collect them after the game is over. In Mario Party you could collect 100 of them and unlock a new level, in Mario Party 2 I'm assuming this is absent. Also the game still features the same players as the original Mario Party, the same crew consists of Mario,Luigi,Yoshi,DK,Wario, and Peach. This is a great game and deserves a buy but you might rather just get Mario Party because its cheaper and basically has the same gameplay.
