statue's Full Review: Monster Truck Madness for Nintendo 64
When I rented this game, the box looked very promising. It talked of 20 different trucks, weapons, and multiplayer games such as monster truck hockey. When I played the game I found all of these things to be true, but there was only one problem: You cant control the monster trucks for your life. I am usually very good at video games, and being patient about learning the controls and getting used to them before declaring the game a failure, but this game was an exception. Your truck has almost no handling capability, and slides off the road on even the slightest corner at slow speeds, and every time you hit a bump, the truck goes flying through the air, and usually lands wheels up. It is extremely frustrating when every 30 seconds your waiting for your truck to land, because it floats through the air for so long. I did think that the Monster truck hockey, and soccer were good ideas, and the game had other excellent features like the various power ups you can find along the road and the recognizable monster trucks. The game had so much potential as an arcade-style racing game, if only it had been more arcade-like in its controls.
