Terran82's Full Review: NASCAR 2000 for Nintendo 64
If you love NASCAR games then this will be good for you. The latest NASCAR game has made some improvements over last year’s version but is no where near as good as the playstation’s version. NASCAR 2000 is a good game but it doesn’t seem as polished or has the same feature as the playsation.
NASCAR 2000 is a fun game to drive. You have the ability to race with a friend through a season. It is fun but horrible to look at. The cars are like moving painted squares. They are blocky and pixilated and the background is lack of detail. The audience is a sheet of dots and the graphics could have been a lot better.
To make up for this NASCAR 2000 has great audio. The commentary is good. Bob Jenkins and Benny Parsons call a good race. The thing is after hearing the same phrase for the 100th time you will want to turn it off. The tracks are done nicely. There are 18 actual NASCAR tracks and 5 fantasy ones to race on. Plus the game is challenging. The computer is smart and will take full advantage over you if you crash. There are also interactive pit stops. In the end the game looks like it was rushed. If you have a playstation I would recommend you get the psx version. It is more polished and feels better. But if you don’t have a psx I would recommend this game to any NASCAR fan.
