Pros: Invent courses, cool cars
Cons: Bad gameplay, annoying music, tough to control
I got this game for my birthday from a friend, so I really can't complain that much because this game was a gift. Penny Racers for Nintendo 64 is an okay game that is fun to make up new courses and test them out. There are 16 different cars to choose from including a Chinese food delivery truck, to a beetle, to a sports car, to a family van. These cars are a plus because you have many to choose from. For the courses, you can play on mountains, countrysides, icy roads, and harbors. Penny Racers has a big variety of cars and courses (including ones you can invent) to play with.
One of the good things about this game is the create a course feature. You can create courses with different obstacles like puddles, trees, garbage can, bumps, and many other things. It really isn't that fun to ride on your course because they all look the same. It's just like a made up land and you're driving through the obstacles you made. This isn't, I repeat, this isn't a real-life simulation.
There are many irritating things about Penny Racers. First, almost every time you make a turn, for some reason your car flips over, slows down, and then keeps on going. This can be a huge factor if it's near the end of the race and it happens. The weird thing is, it doesn't happen to your opponents that the computer controls, just you. Yes this game isn't that high quality (it costs $30) and the makers obviously didn't put a lot of work into the game itself. Another thing that is bad is the gameplay. You can't win any new courses or cars. All you can do is just ride the few courses they have available and try to have fun. The graphics and the music can get to you after a while. Next, after a race, something weird pops up on your screen about buying and selling parts of your car. Don't try it, it doesn't work. It will just mess the game up. Believe me, I've tried. As you go along you will find many more bad things that I haven't listed here. Don't panic, it's just part of the game.
Penny Racers for Nintendo 64 isn't that great of a game. It's cheap, so you can buy it for a friend for his birthday. It will also get you a couple hours of fun. If I were you I would take my advice. Don't get this game.
