Robotron, an arcade game in which had you screaming with anger after you died after the seventh wave. Robotron was an extremely hard game. This attempt to recreate it has totally taken out the difficulty. You could probably easily get past wave 30 without dying once. On my first try playing it I got to about wave 70 and then I turned it off because it was boring and I still had about four or five lives left.
In Robotron you are on a square field as monsters suddenly pop up. You have to move with the direction pad. To shoot you use the c buttons in the way that you want and your guy will shoot an endless amount of bullets in that direction until you change directions. A lot of guys die with one hit and to gain points you have to save the humans by touching them without shooting them. It is a very simple concept that used to be addicting when the first one came out. You could now compare this game to Mutant Storm Reloaded for the Xbox 360, Mutant Storm for the Xbox, or Geometry Wars for the Xbox 360. If you have an Xbox 360, I would suggest downloading Robotron 2084(the original)on the marketplace instead of buying this.
The game features about 4 camera angles, one of which is probably the worst camera angle I have seen in a game. There is the regular robotron style camera, only this time it moves around, there is the bird's eye viewa dn there is the close up behind view of the main character in which you really can't see anything unless it is really close to you. They recycled a lot of characters and I believe some of the music was the same in ths one as the old one.
The graphics are ok, but graphics really don't matter in this type of game. Instead of letting you use the joystick to control the bullets in this one you use the C buttons, (as a defualt control, I am not sure if you can change the controls).
One cool thing in this one is that you can save.
There are some new characters in it but some of them really needed more time for perfection on there movements. One character flys above you and you have to get near it to actually make it come down, if you are too slow when it comes down it will kill you.
Gameplay: 5/10 It's a lot like the original with a few added extras and uhh not as challenging or fun.
Graphics: 6/10 They are ok for the N64 but not that great.
Sound: 4/10 Poor sound effects and music reeks of mediocracy.
Lasting appeal: 3/10 After a little while the game feels so repetetive and easy that after probably the 20th wave you will want to turn it off.
